Education Law

The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) requires public schools to provide a free and appropriate public education to children with disabilites. Before your child can receive special education services, a determination of "eligibility" must be made. There are two criterea that must be met: first, the child must have a disabling condition and second, the disabling condition must have an impact on the child's educational performance.

Disabling conditions include:

  • Specific Learning Disabilities
  • Serious Emotional Disturbance
  • Mental Retardation
  • Hearing loss
  • Speech or Language Impairments
  • Visual Impairments
  • Orthopedic Impairments
  • Autism
  • Traumatic Brain Injury
  • Other Health Related Impairments

Our firm works diligently with parents, therapists and doctors to ensure that every tenant of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act ("IDEA") is strictly complied with. We are committed to ensuring that every child with special needs receives an individually tailored educational program designed to meet his or her unique needs, in the least restrictive environment and with all necessary designated instructional services.

Every parent has dreams for
their child, don't let an
inappropriate educational
program get in the way of
your child's future.

Know Your Rights as Parents:

  • YOU have the right to participate in the educational placement of your child.
  • YOU have the right to have your child assessed in all areas of suspected
    disability at no cost.
  • YOU have the right to bring individuals of special expertise to IEP meetings.
  • YOU have the right to have your child's education individually tailored to
his/her special and unique needs, at no cost.
  • Ensure that your rights as a parent have not been violated.
